Anna Elaine Evans, 76, of Kansas City, MO passed away Nov. 13, 2016. Funeral Service was 10am Thurs., Nov. 17th at the Raytown church of Christ, 6000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, with visitation one hour prior. Burial to follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Anna Elaine Evans was born to Anna May Sneed-Carter and James Earl Carter Sr. on April 7, 1940 in Kansas City, Missouri. Anna insisted on going by her middle name, Elaine. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1958 and continued her education, graduating from Lincoln University in 1962. Elaine gave birth to her daughter, Kellye R. James in 1966, during her 30 year tenure teaching kindergarten for the Kansas City School District. Elaine’s specialty was teaching children to read. She was a pioneer for many reading programs between the 60’s and early 90’s. Elaine retired from teaching in 1993. A few years later with her husband of 34 years, Rufus Evans they began to raise their only granddaughter, Ashlee Elaine. Elaine continued tutoring children through volunteer service, Youth Friends and she served as the secretary for Raytown church of Christ for about 15 years. She touched many lives with her home-crafted cards and her colorful weekly church bulletins.

Elaine is preceeded in death by her beloved husband, Rufus Evans; mother, Anna May Sneed-Carter and father, James Earl Carter Sr. She is survived by her loving daughters, Kellye R. James and Christi Cortina Evans; son, Sgt. Rufus R. Evans; brother, Dr. James Earl Carter Jr.; numerous nieces and nephews and her devoted granddaughter, Ashlee Elaine James.
